Indiana plans $1 million anonymous school safety tip line | News | #schoolsaftey #kids #parents #children

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana plans to launch a statewide anonymous school safety tip line in January 2027, providing round-the-clock monitoring at no cost to participating K-12 schools.

Gov. Mike Braun announced the $1 million initiative, which his administration described as the first anonymous tip line available to all K-12 schools statewide. Participation will be optional.

Trained safety specialists will monitor reports 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Urgent concerns will be referred to designated school officials and, when necessary, emergency responders.

“Safety concerns do not stop when the school day ends,” said Julie Q. Smith, director of the Office of School Safety.

The program is intended to help schools identify potential problems, connect students with support and respond before concerns escalate.

“This historic investment into school safety helps schools identify concerns earlier, connect students with support and respond before a situation becomes a tragedy,” Braun said.

The Office of School Safety will conduct outreach and education sessions for schools over the next several months. The Central Indiana Educational Service Center will work directly with school corporations on enrollment.

The service is expected to become available to enrolled schools beginning in January. The announcement did not include a tip line number or instructions for submitting reports.
