Europol Releases the 2026 EU Terrorism and Situation Trend Report – ASIL | #cybercrime | #infosec

On September 16, 2026, Europol released the 2026 European Union Terrorism and Situation Trend Report (EU TE-SAT). Europol is an EU agency that assists EU member states with preventing and combating organized crime, cybercrime, and terrorism. This annual report compiles information on terrorism from EU member states, providing an overview of major developments in the terrorism landscape in the EU and discusses various forms of terrorism motivated by different ideologies.

This year’s EU TE-SAT found that key developments in 2025 included the effects of ideological diversity and the Internet on terrorism in the EU, versatile operations of terrorists creating strategic threats to social cohesion, and the impact of global geopolitical dynamics on the internal EU landscape. The report also contained more detailed discussions of jihadist terrorism, right-wing terrorism, left-wing and anarchist terrorism, and ethno-nationalist and separatist terrorism. The report concludes that the terrorism threat in the EU remains acute, with more uncertainty affecting the viability of efforts to counter such threats.
