China consistently opposes and lawfully cracks down on hacking activities, foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Mao’s remarks followed reports about alleged cyberattacks on South Korean financial institutions.

“China opposes hacking activities and fights these activities in accordance with the law. That said, we reject spreading disinformation out of political agenda. Artificial intelligence profoundly affects cybersecurity. The international community needs to step up cooperation and dialogue and set up new international rules to jointly safeguard cybersecurity,” said Mao.

Britain’s long-term government bond yields surged again on Wednesday, as rising international oil prices, a global bond sell-off and mounting expectations of interest rate hikes by major central banks weighed on the market.

The 30-year yield rose above 6.03 percent during trading, hitting its highest level since 1998, while the 10-year yield climbed to around 5.50 percent, approaching its highest level since 2007.

The pressure extended beyond Britain, with government bond yields in other major economies, including the United States, also moving broadly higher and putting global bond markets under strain.

Market analysts said persistent tensions in the Middle East and a renewed rise in international energy prices were key factors behind the latest surge in yields.
