Exam cheating and school violence are hot topics in the National Assembly. | #schoolsaftey #kids #parents #children

School violence cannot be dealt with simply by addressing the consequences. On the morning of October 31st, during the socio -economic discussion session, delegate Hoang Van Tuyen (from Hai Phong delegation) raised concerns about the “very worrying” issue of school violence and ensuring a safe educational environment for students and teachers. According to Mr. Tuyen, the most concerning issue is that we often only truly pay attention to school violence after a serious incident occurs. Only when students fight and film it and post it online; when students insult or assault teachers; when a minor conflict escalates into a serious incident, do we begin to look for the causes and responsibilities. More importantly, it must be about prevention from an early stage and from afar,” Mr. Tuyen said, suggesting that preventing school violence should become a regular activity with clear responsibilities in schools, instead of just raising awareness when an incident occurs. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to develop a specialized program on behavioral skills and the prevention and control of school violence; and to research regulations requiring a minimum of one session per month, within the existing class activity and experiential learning time, appropriate to each educational level, without increasing the number of class periods. “These sessions shouldn’t just stop at reminding students ‘don’t fight,’ but should help them identify violence, understand its legal and psychological consequences, learn to control their emotions, resolve conflicts, and seek help when being bullied or when they notice a friend at risk of committing violent acts,” Mr. Tuyen said. According to the delegates, a safe school is not one where conflicts never occur. It is a school that knows how to teach students how to resolve conflicts before they escalate into violence. Speaking to clarify the issue of school violence, especially ensuring the safety of children and students in cyberspace, Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son agreed with the opinions of the National Assembly representatives. Mr. Son stated that the Government has directed the Ministry of Education and Training to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security and other relevant ministries and agencies to finalize a document clearly defining the responsibilities of all parties in protecting students in the online environment, as well as the responsibilities of network operators and online service providers. In the near future, the Ministry of Education and Training also plans to propose to the Government amendments to Decree No. 80 of 2017 to strengthen control, prevention, and handling of school violence; and at the same time clearly define the responsibilities of schools, localities, and families in protecting students and ensuring discipline in schools. Let’s not have to worry about new regulations every exam season. Also at the discussion session, delegate Trinh Xuan An (Dong Nai delegation) stated that shortcomings in examinations, admissions, tutoring, textbooks, and school arrangements necessitate a comprehensive review and improvement of the quality of the education and training sector. “We propose a review and reassessment of the current high school graduation exam system, clarifying its objectives, necessity, and effectiveness in relation to evaluating the learning process, university admissions, and student streaming. From there, we can select an option that ensures fairness, reduces pressure and costs for families and society,” Mr. An said. According to Mr. An, every change in education affects millions of students, teachers, and families. Therefore, it is necessary to fully assess the impact, listen to genuine opinions, announce changes early enough, and have a clear transition roadmap. Delegate Trinh Xuan An. Innovation must help students learn effectively, teachers feel secure in their teaching, and families trust the school,” the male representative stated. Regarding the examination process, Minister Hoang Minh Son stated that the Ministry of Education and Training has conducted an assessment and review of all issues arising in practice. In the coming period, the Ministry of Education and Training will implement measures to improve the quality of examinations, control cheating and negative behaviors. Recently, the Ministry also advised on the issuance of a directive on strengthening measures to combat cheating in examinations and assessment of learning outcomes. Regarding the curriculum and textbooks, Mr. Son emphasized that this matter has been addressed by directives from the General Secretary, the President, and a Government Resolution. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued a plan to review, summarize, and comprehensively improve the curriculum and textbooks.
