The City of Melbourne relies heavily on digital information systems, technology, and the internet to deliver efficient and essential services to our residents. Our IT team works behind the scenes to maintain this essential infrastructure that supports every department, every employee, and every service that the City provides. This includes working around the clock to protect our digital information systems from ever-evolving cyber threats.
In recognition of the important work they do, and to encourage all Melbourne residents and businesses to stay vigilant and take the necessary steps to prevent cyber crime, Mayor Paul Alfrey has designated October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month in the City of Melbourne.
The City of Melbourne encourages all residents, local businesses, schools, and community organizations to observe Cybersecurity Awareness Month by reviewing their digital footprints, adopting stronger security habits, and participating in cyber-safety education.
Simple steps — such as using strong passwords, enabling multifactor authentication, updating software regularly, and recognizing phishing attempts — greatly improve our collective security posture.
